Cake and Cookies

April meant lots of baking for me between Easter and Adam's birthday.
Cherry Cake
Adam decided on a cherry cake for his birthday. I ended up making an almond cake with a cherry buttercream. I found some sour cherry jam that looked incredible with its chunks of cherries and mixed that into the frosting. This allowed the frosting to have chunks of cherries throughout it which was really good.

Just looking at these photos make me want cake again.... too bad it's all gone now.

Carrot Cake Cookies

I wanted to make some homemade cookies but I was also short on time so I pulled out a box of carrot cake mix and made some easy cake mix cookies. I've made them numerous times before and I follow this recipe. The only difference was I rolled the cookie dough in different sprinkles and coloured sugars. This is the easiest cookie to make and they taste really good! They're always soft and full of flavour. These carrot cake cookies turned out spicy which pairs well with a cup of coff…

My Life In Photos

So, um, where did April go? It's like I blinked and all of a sudden the month is almost over. April was full of cozy things at home; Easter, Adam's birthday, and lots of kitty snuggles.

How was April for you? I'm pretty excited for May and the plans we have during the month.

That Mermaid Life

I'm longing for sunshine, warm days, and not wearing layers of clothing. We're barely getting spring and I freeze at night because I refuse to put my furnace back on. I'm itching to open windows for fresh air and to wear shoes without socks.

More than likely this is pushing me towards my mermaid obsession... I'm wanting to live at the beach, the sun on my skin, and sand under my toes. I want to spend afternoons swimming in the lake and lounging on a beach towel.

Not only do I have a mermaid theme going, but it seems a teal-theme as well. Come on sunshine! I want spring and summer!

Stationery Wish List

I love notebooks, smooth-writing pens, and stickers. I have a serious addiction to stationery. Now add in the fact that I'm badly wanting sunny and warm weather, and Chapters' new stationery collection is pretty darn perfect for me.

I plan on treating myself to a new notebook and some new pens soon. The rainy weather we've been having has me wanting to surround myself in sunshine items!

Fandom Favourites

Life has been a whirlwind lately. The weather has been a tease and only giving us snippets of nice weather and then giving us a ton of rain. So my evenings have been spent inside more often than I'd like. But it's hard to go for after dinner walks when it's cold enough for a winter jacket or it's pouring rain.

1. Adam and I have been playing more video games lately since our evenings have been damp and chilly here. Hiding under blankets with cats snuggled up is the perfect way to spend time together. Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime is a game Adam downloaded on the Playstation Network.

It's a co-op adventure game and highly addictive. You work together to steer and protect your ship, while also saving bunny friends, fighting off enemies, and making your way through space. It's so much fun and I want to play it every night.

2. Hot Topic released a Retro Disney collection with the most adorable dresses. My favourite one is The Little Mermaid, which is no surprise.…

Cadbury Creme Egg Brownies

One of my favourite Easter treats is the Cadbury Creme Egg. They're a favourite for a lot of people since they're incredibly sweet and will satisfy any sweet tooth. Every year we head to McDonald's for a Cadbury Creme Egg McFlurry which is so yummy.

This year I decided to try making a Cadbury Creme Egg brownie for dessert. I looked at multiple recipes online that people used for Creme Egg cakes, cheesecakes and other treats. I ended up mixing and matching different things.

So my bottom layer was a boxed brownie mix. I let it cool completely before adding the next layer; homemade vanilla buttercream. From here I put the pan in the freezer.

I made up the yellow 'yolk' mixture next. This was made with a combination of icing sugar, corn syrup, yellow food colouring, and a bit of water. It honestly looked like egg yolk once I found the consistency I was looking for.

I poured the yellow yolk right on top of the buttercream and put it back in the freezer to harden up.

My Life In Photos

Spring has been pretty great so far. We went to visit family a couple of weekends ago and we squished in as much as we could - bowling for my brother's birthday, Pokemon Go playing, shopping downtown, heading out for dinner, a Stag and Doe, and just lots of visits with family.

I hope you're having a great Easter weekend. We're not doing much other than enjoying the sunny weather and spending some much needed time relaxing.

What I'm Loving Now

The theme of April seems to be 'waiting for warm weather and sunny days'. This post is no different.

Bath and Body Works

I had the chance to go wander around Bath and Body Works recently and I spent a long time smelling all their new scents. I fell in love with so many. Surprisingly I fell for more of their body products than candles this time around. They've released a bunch of summer-themed products; aloe gel lotions, coconut scents, body scrubs. I plan on impatiently waiting for a sale where I can use a coupon on top of the sale to go coconut and pineapple crazy!

We've been on a smoothie kick in our household lately. Fresh fruit, frozen fruit, leftover almond milk or yogurt close to expiry, chia seeds. It's been an easy way to include some fruit into our diets and use up random ingredients from our fridge. I've experimented with green smoothies in the past but we no longer have kale or spinach on hand. We buy different greens since we share them with…

All The Colours

Since I'm on a unicorn kick, as well as the fact that we have spring weather finally, I'm obsessed with colours - pastel, bright, tropical. All the colours! I bought a sweater last week and it's coral! This is odd for me since I tend to fall into the grey/blue category with most of my clothing. I will more than likely pair that coral sweater with a grey tank. But it's such a bright, happy colour and I'm excited to wear it.

I've been drawn to colours everywhere. These are a few of my favourite colourful things right now:

1. Tarte's Make Believe in Yourself collection. I want it all.

2. Starbucks' spring cups. They're too cute.

3. Davids Tea Summer Collection. I plan on picking up an iced tea press for myself to have fresh iced tea all summer!

All these colours put me in such a happy mood so I plan on surrounding myself with them.

Etsy Updates

Happy Friday!
So my Etsy shop has been updated with a ton of new pouches! I posted a few of my extra large pouches which would be amazing for a toiletry bag or to hold all your art supplies. I'm thinking I might use one for all my planner accessories. It would definitely hold all my washi, stickers, and pens.
Head to my Etsy shop to see all the pouches!

I hope you have a great weekend! And keep an eye on my shop. I'll be updating it with new hobo bags and totes next week.

The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl Everyday Cosplay

Since I started reading The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl comics I've been drawn to Doreen. She's such a great character; kind-hearted, smart, witty, talkative, and just very inspiring. I really enjoyed reading The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl novel recently and it's got me back on a Squirrel Girl kick. I'm behind on a few issues of the Squirrel Girl comics but I don't think that'll be the case for long since I'm itching to read more of Squirrel Girl's adventures.

The Squirrel Girl novel was a great introduction to the character; how she became a superhero and started to use her powers for good. I could picture Doreen running around in her teddy bear hoodie with a pack of squirrels in tow.

I put together an Everyday Cosplay for Squirrel Girl because, let's be honest, I'd love to take a little bit of Squirrel Girl and put that into my everyday life. She's an incredible role model.

After putting this outfit together I am seriously wanting an acorn neck…

Season 3 of iZombie starts up tomorrow and I'm so excited for it! It's easily one of my favourite shows. I adore the writing, the concept, the jokes, and the characters, especially Liv and Ravi. I've read the comic books that the show is based on. Yes, they change things, but the overall idea is the same: zombies can function like normal humans with a regular dose of brains. Also, the memories and personality traits from the brain will affect the zombie who ingested the brains. That is until the brain has worn off and passed through the body.

If you haven't watched iZombie, or aren't caught up, what are you waiting for?! I won't give away spoilers on how season 2 ended but let's just say that season 3 should start strong as we were left with a crazy ending. And if the poster for season 3 is any indication, I'm pumped to see how things turn out.

To celebrate the return of iZombie, I wanted to share a few of my favourite iZombie merchandise.

Clockwise fro…
