Food Inspiration + #PokéNOM

I love fandom recipes. I love recipes inspired by anything geek-related. Well this month I was able to explore that interest more and find so much inspiration thanks to IGGPPC. September was a food-themed month and I had the opportunity to interview two amazingly talented ladies. Their geeky creations have left me wanting to run to the kitchen to make all the food!

The first food blogger I interviewed was The Gluttonous Geek. I'm amazed by how she comes up with recipes from tv shows and movies. Her interpretations are perfect.

Through her blog I was also introduced to #PokeNOM. Earlier this year I had made Pokemon Starters Cupcakes for the 20th anniversary of Pokemon and I was up to the challenge of coming up with another Pokemon recipe. So I spent a busy couple of weeks trying to think of another Pokemon recipe I could make easily since September has flown by for me. Then I woke up one morning with the thought of doing another Starters-themed recipe: Candy Bark! You can see the p…

Fall Fashion: Look Human

It's no secret that I'm a huge fan of Look Human designs. Their love of cats, wine, cuddles, and coffee have won my heart over.
Now their Feelin Fall Collection has me wanting to add everything to my cart (except for the football things....). These designs top my Look Human wish list:

See? Cats, cuddles, candy, crafting, pumpkins, and leaves! It's me! It's all me! After my next craft show I may have to splurge on a new shirt for the cold months, especially that long sleeve t-shirt. I love the shape of it!

Toronto Adventures

Last week Adam and I went to Toronto for a couple of days. We had absolutely gorgeous weather and we spent the entire time walking around downtown.
Our hotel room view. You can see the CN Tower right in the middle.

We hit up as many comic book, tabletop gaming, video games, and toy stores as we could fit in. I also squeezed in a visit to MAC makeup and Forever 21. Checking out these stores led us to purchasing some great things too.

I finally had the chance to check out Silver Snail's new location. I loved their Black Canary Cafe inside.

I also drank quite a bit of bubble tea while we wandered the city. There's a bubble tea place on every single block it seems and I had no self control.

We also played Pokemon Go for a good chunk of time. All the walking helped us hatch some eggs and we finally caught a Doduo there!

I insisted on finding a bakery nearby that sold French Macarons since we don't have any bakeries that sell them in Sudbury.

They even had a pumpkin spice one!

5 Fandom Friday: Fictional Characters that Define Me

If you're on Twitter or Instagram you've probably seen a popular hashtag floating around to define yourself in three fictional characters. I, of course, jumped on this and gave myself a couple of days to mull over what characters I'm most like. And then after seeing Jordandene turn her character picks into a #5FandomFriday post, I thought, what a fun idea!

My initial 3 picks:

1. Mikey from Nickelodeon's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
In this series Mikey loves all cute things, especially cats, gets super excited for food, pronounces words wrong, and has a tendency to trip or crash into something when he's supposed to be quiet like a ninja. Sounds like me, right?

2. Hermione Granger from Harry Potter
Oh how do I relate with Hermione's need to study, be right, and not get into trouble. That was me growing up, and maybe me now too.

3. Leslie Knope from Parks and Recreation
Leslie's positive attitude, strong work ethics, loyalty to friends, and love of waffles are pr…

Fall Style

When looking at the long-term weather forecast I can see fall is definitely here. The temperatures are steadily dropping which means I get to pull out my leggings, boots, and cardigans!

Right now I'm on the lookout for a few wardrobe pieces to freshen up what I already own for the cooler months ahead.

Clockwise from top right corner:
1. Flurry Moc from Airwalk
I already own a pair of these and they're so comfortable and cute. But they're a few years old and don't look so nice anymore.
2. Long Open-Front Cardigan from Old Navy
I love my cardigans and a couple of mine are starting to show their age - small holes and the fabric is balling. I need a couple of new ones, and I'm so in love with the longer styles.
3. Midnight Leggings from Sweetlegs
Have you heard of Sweetlegs? Their leggings are so amazing! They're soft, super stretchy, long, and very high-waisted. If I could live in them for the rest of my life I'd be very happy.
4. Boyfriend Cardigan from Old Navy

Fandom Favourites

Hello! I wanted to share some of my fandom favourites with you today.
1. I'm really enjoying the new Powerpuff Girls TV show and I especially want the new figures that have been released for the show. There's an entire new line of toys for PPG, but the little plastic figures are a necessity for my collection.

2. Recently at EB Games I spotted the SDCC Exclusive X-Men Dorbz. So I've done my best not to buy any of the Dorbz figures because I can only fit so many toys on my shelves. But the X-Men ones are too cute! Maybe it's because Wolverine is actually smiling...

3. TeeTurtle released a few candy girl t-shirt designs and I love every single one. However, the Candy Corn Countess has won over my heart.

4. The new Gilmore Girls episodes are so close to airing (not really that close, but close enough that I can count down now). I pretty much squee every time I see anything Gilmore Girls-related. And I desperately need some sort of Luke's artwork fo…

Fall Baking

Fall officially starts next week but it's already arrived here. Our weather has gotten significantly cooler and our front lawn is covered in leaves.

I can already feel myself getting the urge to bake everything, just like I do every year when the temperature outside drops. This week I've already baked zucchini muffins, Pillsbury cookies, and banana bread.

I rounded up some recipes I'm itching to try over the next couple of months.

Clockwise from the top left corner:
1. Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies
2. Chewy Molasses Cookies
3. White Chocolate Dipped Cranberry Oatmeal Cookies
4. Carrot Cake Cookie Cups
5. Pumpkin Bread

What I'm Loving Now: Books

I haven't been reading as much as I'd like to lately. I'm too tired at night and I find myself falling asleep in the middle of sentences. But I have been able to squeeze in a few audiobooks over the last month.
The Nest by Cynthia D'Aprix Sweeney
"A warm, funny and acutely perceptive debut novel about four adult siblings and the fate of the shared inheritance that has shaped their choices and their lives."
The reason I picked up this book was because I kept seeing it everywhere. It was in every email I received about bestsellers and top books of the summer. Also, let's be honest, the cover also made me want to read it.
I enjoy books and movies that take multiple stories and have them intertwine and overlap in some way. This is how The Nest is written. So even if one character's story didn't thrill you, you would soon be on to reading about the next character. I found the book lighthearted and engaging. I laughed out loud a few times and other time…

My Life In Photos

Summer is over and it's incredibly bittersweet. Looking back at photos from August have me wanting another beach day or to wear my light cotton Summer dresses around. But autumn weather is starting to show itself and my mind is somewhat fall-obsessed right now.

This was how I spent August...

Eating vegetables from our garden. These tomatoes were my absolute favourite thing we grew this year.

This groundhog was spotted in our yard all summer. We ended up with less vegetables than normal since he enjoyed eating the flowers off all the plants.

Look at that jellybean paw!

This is from our last day swimming at the beach. We squeezed in a trip right before Fan Expo since we knew fall weather hits here fast once September starts.

Of course I was surrounded by fabric and covered in thread all month while I finished up prep work for Fan Expo.

The fact that it's September 12th is freaking me out. I don't even have my fall decorations out yet! I must dig out all my pumpkins.

I hope S…

New Fall Television

As usual, once September sneaks up on me I hop on the computer and look up all the new television shows that will be airing this Fall season. I watch trailers and read synopses and then make a list of the new shows with their premiere dates that I plan on checking out.

These are the new shows I'll be checking out this Fall season:

Conviction

"A brilliant young attorney (Hayley Atwell), who is also the daughter of a former U.S. president, is blackmailed to head up NYC's new Conviction Integrity Unit. She and her team investigate cases where people may have been wrongly convicted."

The synopsis of this show is fairly typical and nothing too out of the ordinary. But it's the cast that makes me want to watch it. I'll pretty much watch anything Hayley Atwell is in.

The Good Place

"The Good Place, is a town where those who have been good throughout their life go to once they have passed away. Michael (Danson) is the architect who oversees the town. Eleanor (Bell) …

Slytherin Everyday Cosplay

I was finally able to finish reading Harry Potter and the Cursed Child last week before heading down to Fan Expo. I really enjoyed the book and even though it was in a script format I still found it easy to read and that it flowed well.

Don't worry, I won't give out any spoilers. My spoiler-free review: It was a fun read that brought back a lot of Harry Potter nostalgia. The characters were great, the story line very interesting, and I was sucked into the book like all the other Harry Potter books. I found the book a bit short and it left me wanting more stories of that universe but that's my problem, not the book's. And needless to say, I have a newfound respect for Slytherins.

I have never been sorted into the Slytherin house, but if I do,I know exactly what I want to wear!

What house have you been sorted into? And if you've read Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, did you like it?

Fan Expo Canada 2016

Well another Fan Expo is over and it's bittersweet as always. It was a fantastic weekend filled with so much fun and so many amazing people, but I'm beyond exhausted and have a scratchy throat and hoarse voice due to so much talking.

My table in Artist Alley:

The displays and cosplays this year were amazing. Harley Quinn and Rey were definitely the most popular in my opinion. But I was also impressed with how many Ladybug and Cat Noir (from the show Miraculous) cosplays I saw. You can see more of my photos on my Facebook page here.

I had fun checking out the celebs with my Mom and we got a few decent pictures too.

I came home with a huge stack of comics and also quite a few Pop! Vinyl figures and some prints for my craft room.

It was a great convention and I'm sad that it's over. I'll need at least a week to rest and recover before I get ready for my next show in October - Northern Game Expo.

If you stopped by my table this past weekend, thank you!
