#Pokemon20: Pokémon Starter Cupcakes

Today is the 20th anniversary of Pokémon! How crazy is it that Pokémon has been around for 20 years and it's still going strong with awesome games and toys!?

I was a child of Pokémon. I grew up with it. I had two younger brothers who became obsessed with the card game and the Pokémon handheld games. As for myself, I loved the television show, anything to do with Squirtle, and the console games - Pokémon Snap, Stadium, and Puzzle League. To this day I will pull out Pokémon Snap from time to time to beat it in one sitting and I have a hard time beating Adam in any rounds of Pokémon Puzzle League.

To celebrate Pokémon Day, I made Pokémon starter cupcakes - water, fire, and grass.

The water ones are my favourite, which isn't just because of my love for Squirtle. I love how the little waves turned out!

These are some of our newest perler bead creations too - Squirtle, Charmander, and Bulbasaur. They're the perfect accessory for my cupcake photos.

How are you celebrating Pokémon…

What I'm Loving Now

February is almost over and I have the Springtime itch... I want sunny days, open windows, no more Winter coats. I blame retail. The stores are starting to fill up with camping gear, gardening supplies, and lots of pastels for Easter.

Make Me Like You
Then, there's Gwen Stefani's new single - Make Me Like You. I'm addicted and it's the perfect song for nice weather. My excitement to play this song (and her entire new album) while driving with my car windows down this Spring is strong!

Broad City

Between social media and one of my best friends, this show kept being recommended to me. I watched the first season and I loved it. It took a couple of episodes to grow on me but by the end of the season I really liked Abbi and Ilana. I'm looking forward to starting the second season to see more of their adventures.

"Broad City follows two women throughout their daily lives in New York City, making the smallest and mundane events hysterical and disturbing to watch all at…

Crafty Updates: Perler Beads

What happens when you find an unopened container of Perler Beads at the thrift store? You buy them and spend numerous hours making designs with them. This also includes cursing when you accidentally bump your peg board and knock over beads or spending way too much time than you'd like to admit searching and sorting colours. It's been fun and addictive and sometimes a little frustrating.

So what are Perler Beads?

"Perler beads (as known as Hama beads or Nabbi beads) are plastic fusible beads. These colorful beads are usually arranged on plastic pegboards to form patterns and then fused together with a clothes iron."
Thank you Perlest for the easy description.

Let me show you some of our finished designs.

I'm so in love with how everything turned out! I've turned most of these into magnets. We have a few more designs resting on our bookshelf that I haven't photographed or glued magnets to yet.

There are a lot more designs I want to try, especially a black cat…

Fandom Favourites: Toy Fair Edition

Last weekend was Toy Fair in New York City. Every year I scroll through the photos with the toy fair hashtags. It's a lot of fun to see what's going to be coming out over the next year. This year was no different and there were a few toys and product lines introduced that will definitely be on my wish list this year.

1. Funko released their newest toy line: Rock Candy. One of the first lines to come out will be the DC comics ladies and I'm absolutely dying over the 'Modern Batgirl' vinyl figure.

2. I came across an image of new Pusheen products and spotted blind boxes! Gund has teamed up with Pusheen to create Pusheen Surprise Plush blind boxes. They're all so cute! And I can see myself buying multiples of these blind boxes over the span of a comic convention weekend.

3. With the Powerpuff Girls reboot coming this Spring, there were some pictures posted of the new figures and playsets that will be showing up in stores. It was also just announced that Funko wi…

All the Purses

If you follow me on Pinterest, you must notice all the purses I pin, especially from ModCloth and Kate Spade. I don't always like conventional purses - fun prints, graphics, or designs win me over. As well as, I've always been a big fan of menswear-inspired bags. These bags currently top my purse wish list:

As the seasons change, so do my purses. I'm not one to change my bag weekly or even monthly. I can't be bothered. But once Spring peeks out, even just a little bit, I'll be running to change over to one of my 'Spring' bags.

Deadpool Cake

We went to see Deadpool this past weekend for our Valentine's date. The movie was so good and they did a damn good job portraying Deadpool very accurately to the comic books. The action scenes were a lot of fun and the writing was hilarious and smart. Needless to say, I'm so pumped for the possibility of a sequel and what new characters they might bring in for it.

Because it was Valentine's weekend and I was super excited for the movie, I decided to make a super chocolatey cake for dessert and to decorate it Deadpool-style.

I started with a devil's food cake mix (you have to go naughty for Deadpool) and baked it in two 9" pans. Once cooled, I used strawberry jam in between the layers to attach the two cake pieces. I thought the jam would make a nice oozy, blood-like center. Though, the jam is so dark against the chocolate cake, there's no way to photograph it well.

After that, I frosted the entire cake with homemade chocolate buttercream. And not to toot my ow…

Valentine Baking

As usual I did a bunch of holiday-themed baking in the first half of the month. It gives me an excuse to pull out my pink food colouring and heart sprinkles.

First up was pink chocolate chip cookies.

Next was heart sugar cookies with pink frosting and sprinkles.

Then I made a raspberry Jello poke cake when we had my parents visiting.

Finally, I whipped up some rice krispie treats the other day with some heart sprinkles on top.

I have one more thing to bake this weekend but it actually won't be Valentine-themed...

I hope you're having a wonderful weekend!

What I'm Loving Now: Every Day

I finished up a new audio book a couple days ago - Every Day by David Levithan.
"Every day a different body. Every day a different life. Every day in love with the same girl. There’s never any warning about where it will be or who it will be. A has made peace with that, even established guidelines by which to live: Never get too attached. Avoid being noticed. Do not interfere.

It’s all fine until the morning that A wakes up in the body of Justin and meets Justin’s girlfriend, Rhiannon. From that moment, the rules by which A has been living no longer apply. Because finally A has found someone he wants to be with—day in, day out, day after day."

This book was fantastic. The story was incredibly unique and it grabbed me right away. I became obsessed to finish the story because I couldn't wrap my head around how the story would play out. How does a character that wakes up in a different body every day find an end, a conclusion? Needless to say there is a follow up book, Anothe…

Everyday Cosplay: Deadpool

Deadpool comes out on Friday and I'm so incredibly excited to see it. Like many Deadpool fans, we will be seeing the movie as our Valentine's Day date. What better way to celebrate a romantic day but with Deadpool?!

To get ready for the movie I came up with a Deadpool Everyday Cosplay that I'd love to wear! Mixing a cute and sweet dress with tougher accessories is one of my favourite styles.

Finishing off the outfit with lots of black eyeliner and red nails is the perfect touch in my opinion. I will definitely be trying to duplicate this outfit for my date this weekend.
Are you excited for the Deadpool movie? xo Jen

Fandom Favourites

Hello! I hope your weekend is going great! I'm here to share with you my fandom favourites that I'm loving this week.

1. TeeTurtle just released the cutest Toothless t-shirt design. It makes my heart melt.

2. This Wonder Woman fabric from Camelot fabrics is beautiful! I really want to use this fabric for future projects.

3. Dooney and Bourke released their Star Wars: The Force Awakens bags for Disney and, oh my, I want them all!

4. All the information being released about the Gilmore Girls' revival is making me so excited and nostalgic. Never have I wanted to rewatch Gilmore Girls as much as I do right now.

5. Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens game has been announced and arrives in stores this June. I love the Lego games and since I loved The Force Awakens so much, I cannot wait for this game!

What fandom news are you loving this week?

To Do List: February

Source
It's crazy February is here already. Winter is half over! But there's no sign of it slowing down. Our Winter has been a little weird. Mild temperatures and tons of snow. This means our usual ice skating adventures aren't as easy to do since the rinks get closed when the weather is too mild. But all the snow is giving us other opportunities.
February To Do List: Snowshoeing! We have found two places that rent out snowshoes and we clearly have more than enough snow to do this Winter activity so we're planning on heading out at least once this month to try it. Hikes. The snow does make everything look beautiful. The trees are covered in snow and they look so glittery. And with the mild temperatures, we won't freeze our butts off on a hike.Bake! This month is Valentine's Day, Deadpool is released, and it's Pokemon's anniversary. I have so much themed-baking to do. Plus, I've started the food activities up on IGGPPC and I have lots of food to shar…

Coffee Shop Dates

One of my favourite things to do is to try different coffee and bake shops. This is because of a couple of reasons: I love coffee.I love pastries and baked goods. The atmosphere - every single coffee and bake shop I've been to have a wonderful and inviting atmosphere. It's fun trying something new - new flavours, new menu items. I like spending money at a local, independent business than the 'big guy' coffee shops.  There are a handful of places that I've visited here that I really, really like. And even though Adam isn't big on coffee, I can usually drag him to one of the local coffee shops with the promise of some sort of sweet treat.
With the cooler weather, I'm finding myself trying to fit in all the coffee shop dates with both Adam and friends. Typically I head out bundled up in Winter clothing and lots of layers but in my ideal world, I'd be dressing in a similar outfit to this (I also really, really need that coffee & donuts tee!):

Do you hav…
