Fall Wish List

Tomorrow is September and that means Fall is around the corner! Eeee!

I'm so excited for Fall fashion and these are just a few things that top my Fall wish list. How amazing are those knee high socks?! And if I had a Totoro dress it would easily be my favourite item in my wardrobe. And a candy corn kitty?! Everything here makes me happy and excited for the next season.
Are you looking forward to Fall? xo Jen

Comic Books

Recently, I have fallen completely head over heels for some new comic book series.

Here we go...

Black Canary
"Dinah Lance hits the road! After years as a soldier and vigilante, the LAST place Dinah saw herself is on stage...but she's quickly learning she'd die to protect the gang of misfits she's fallen into. And she just might have to-for some reason, the newly rechristened band, "Black Canary," seems to be a magnet for trouble...and Dinah's not gonna believe it when she finds out the reason why! Martial arts, super-spies, and rock 'n' roll combine, from Brenden Fletcher (BATGIRL) and Annie Wu (Hawkeye)!"
The art, the dialogue, Dinah's personality... I love it all! I'm new to Black Canary, except for the tidbits I've read in Batgirl. But I cannot recommend this series enough. It's beautiful and tough and just amazing.

Crafty Updates

Hello! What a month it has been sewing and getting ready for my next show. I have a sore blister on my knuckle, achy muscles in my hands, and some numb fingers from intense cutting/sewing/ironing all month. But it's worth it because Fan Expo is next week!
Here's some recent photos I've posted through Instagram of my finished products for the show.
I have a crazy amount of cat toys for the show!

I sewed and ironed approximately 40 new pillowcases.

I've made so many new pouches over the last couple of months since I always sell them on Etsy too. I have a wide range of sizes and fabrics.

This will be the first show I have extra large, canvas beach bags at. Honestly, I want to keep them all for myself!

As usual, I have a multitude of tote bags in different sizes and prints. I really love how they turned out.

Technically, I'm finished all my sewing for the show. Everything I wanted to finish is done. But because I'm crazy, I'm going to whip up a few more pou…

Fall Itch

I've tried to hold off as long as possible since there's still a week left of August, but I just can't hold my excitement in anymore. Fall is around the corner!! Fall starts early where I live and once we get back from Fan Expo Canada I'm going to be in full Fall-mode!

I'm excited for pumpkin flavoured things, dresses with tights, boots, knee high socks, and lots of layers!

What I'm Loving Now

P.S. I Still Love You

It's satisfying flying through a good book. I moved P.S. I Still Love You right to the top of my to-read pile after devouring the first book. I find the series adorable and I'm a big fan of the narrator who narrates the audio books. The lead character, Lara Jean, is a very cute character and I love her enthusiasm for themed parties, her adoration for old-fashion and vintage things, and of course, her love of baking. This book is an easy, light, feel-good read. It was perfect for summertime.

Face Masks

I recently visited The Face Shop during my last trip to Hamilton and I fell in love with the store instantly. They had a whole wall of Korean face masks - you know the paper masks with cut out holes for the mouth and eyes? I wanted to buy one of each but I settled on ones that'll be appropriate for the next few months. Ones to help exhausted skin from the hot summer and preparing for Fan Expo and then moisturizing and rejuvenating masks for the cool…

S'mores Cookie Bars

Tomorrow marks the last day of camp and it's bittersweet. IGGPPCamp has been so much fun so far and the activities have been great.

This past Saturday we had a bake-along and made S'mores Cookie Bars which turned out super yummy! I have to thank Danni for getting everything together and doing an awesome job hosting the live hangout!

So Many Dresses

ModCloth has been releasing some amazing dresses that are perfect for Autumn and I want them all! Falling in love with dresses from ModCloth isn't a new thing, but with Autumn being my favourite season, I love these dresses even more since they'd be perfect with tights, boots, and a cardigan!

I know it's still August and Summer doesn't last very long here so I'll do my best to keep my excitement for Autumn under control....
So just go look at all the pretty dresses! xo Jen

IGGPPCamp

Tomorrow is the first day of IGGPPCamp - our second Summer Camp at International Geek Girl Pen Pals Club! Last Summer we put on our first Summer Camp and it was so much fun and quite the success so we decided to put it on yearly.

This year it runs August 13th-18th and there's so many great activities happening! The details can be found in the Camp Handbook here.

I'll be doing the S'mores Cookie Bars bake-along Saturday evening! No surprise right?! I'm excited for it and to eat them! But seriously, there's some super fun things planned for camp. I'm really looking forward to Comic Book Boot Camp, Blanket Fort Challenge, Camp Cocktails, the Feminism 101 video, and all the craft and photo challenges!

There were Camp Kits being sold prior to camp and let me tell you, they're so awesome and are filled with the best things. I think it represents IGGPPCamp perfectly.

So definitely swing by IGGPPC between the 13th-18th for IGGPPCamp activities and fun times!

National S'mores Day

Today is National S'mores Day and it's no secret I'm a big fan of s'mores and anything with marshmallows. There's so many s'mores recipes online and I want to try them all. When I was brainstorming which recipe to make, I came across a recipe on Pinterest that was perfect - I already had the ingredients and it was easy to cut up and take to work for lunches.

So this recipe is basically rice krispie treats but made with honey graham cereal (Golden Grahams or a knock-off brand) and chocolate chips. The recipe I followed also added in peanut butter since peanut butter s'mores are pretty amazing. But if you wanted more of a classic recipe, omit the peanut butter for butter.

Peanut Butter S'mores
3 tablespoons butter
3/4 cup peanut butter
6 cups marshmallows
6 cups honey graham cereal (Golden Grahams)
chocolate chips (as much as you like)

Directions:
1. In a large pot melt the butter and peanut butter over medium heat. Stir in marshmallows and continue to st…

What I'm Loving Now

Life has been full of audio books and TV shows since I'm back to sewing like crazy for Fan Expo. I have a giant audio book list to get through and I'm excited to get to each book.

Anna and the French Kiss

I've heard of the book, Anna and the French Kiss. a lot. But the cover of the book and the synopsis didn't grab me. However, after hearing about it for the millionth time and about the following books in the series I decided to give it a try. I was looking for some fun, easy, modern books for the Summer anyways. Well, I loved the book. It's a really cute and basic story. The characters and setting are great though. I enjoyed it right from the beginning of the audio book. I'm very excited to move onto the next book, Lola and the Boy Next Door.

Crafty Updates

Fan Expo Canada is less than a month away and I'm starting to freak out. Don't get me wrong, I already have a ton of stock made up for the show but I never feel like I have enough and I'll sew my butt off until a couple days before the show. It's my pattern.

I bought a bunch of new fabrics for this convention and some family members have been finding some awesome sheets for me to use as fabric too. I'm very excited and happy about these bags.

Now that I've stocked up on hobo bags, I'm moved onto extra large totes (beach bags!) and kitty kickers. I have something to work on every day this month to make sure I have the most stock possible!

So again, bear with me while I stress out and overwork myself this month!
