Lime Chocolate Chip Cookies

Recently I shared some recipes that I wanted to try and one of them was Key Lime Cookies. Adam is a huge fan of lime so I figured I'd give these cookies a go. Well, the recipe calls for a Key Lime cake mix. In Canada, we do not have such a thing. Not that I've ever seen anyways because I would buy one in a heartbeat because of Adam's love of lime.

I ended up finding a Lemon Crackle cookie recipe in my Company's Coming cookbook. It's a basic recipe and I just switched out all the lemon ingredients for lime. I also added in some chocolate chips. They turned out pretty good but the lime flavour isn't super strong.

Don't get me wrong, they're very tasty with a harder outside and a soft inside. But I think we were both expecting a stronger lime taste. So now I need to get down to the U.S. to look for key lime cake mix!

I hope you're having a wonderful weekend and enjoying some sweet treats too!

Weekend Adventures

Last weekend we were in Hamilton for multiple reasons and we squished in as much as possible during the two and a half days we were there. It was a good weekend with family.
Yogurty's date <3

I spent a small fortune at a fabric store there.

While going through some things in my parents' basement, Adam found some pictures of me.

Cupcakes I decorated for my Dad's birthday party. I forgot just how much I love decorating cupcakes.

The blue frosting was vanilla and the yellow was lemon.

Our first bonfire of the year!

Last weekend has me excited for other Summer plans we have this year with family and friends. I hope you had a good weekend!

These are some of my Spring moments...

Let's see what else Spring brings!

What I'm Loving Now

This week I received a couple of emails from websites I frequent often - Indigo and We Love Fine. Both of these emails made be squee out loud.
Great Canadian Summer
The first email was from Indigo and it was sharing their Great Canadian Summer collection. Oh man, I want it all! It's filled with canoes, paddles, deer, lakes, fishing... everything that makes Summer so much fun! It's all about the outdoors. I've completely fallen for the glasses they've released.
You can see the entire collection here.
My Little Pony Chibis
The next email from We Love Fine made my day! These My Little Pony Chibis are too cute! I need them.
They're so adorable!
I hope you're having a fantastic weekend! xo Jen

Comic Books

I keep adding more titles to my current list of comics I'm reading. I've shared some of the titles I've been reading previously so I thought I'd share a few more titles that I'm really enjoying.

Jem and the Holograms
"SHOWTIME, SYNERGY! Meet JERRICA BENTON--a girl with a secret. She and her sister KIMBER team with two friends to become... JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS! But what does it mean to be JEM today? Fashion, art, action, and style collide in the most outrageous comic of 2015!"
Since I grew up watching Jem and the Holograms I knew I had to read the comic and it's exactly what I hoped for! It's super fun and I adore the art. The writing is great and I'm enjoying the story telling. If you were a fan of Jem growing up, I'd recommend checking out this comic.

Princess Leia
"When Princess Leia Organa was captured by the Empire as a Rebel spy, she never betrayed her convictions, even in the face of the complete destruction of her home world…

TV Watch List

Most television shows have wrapped up their seasons until the Fall. Usually during the Summer months I marathon shows since I spend a lot of time sewing and it's easy to get through full seasons of shows while I work on sewing projects.
After hearing so much about some television shows online and from friends, I've made a small list of shows I'd like to marathon this Summer.
1. The Americans
"Two Soviet intelligence agents pose as a married couple to spy on the American government."
I've wanted to see this show ever since I saw the first commercial for it. I'm a huge fan of Keri Russell and it just looks like it'd be a very interesting and exciting show. I never got around to watching it but a friend has recently watched it and confirmed that I really do need to start it.
2. Arrow
"Spoiled billionaire playboy Oliver Queen is missing and presumed dead when his yacht is lost at sea. He returns five years later a changed man, determined to cl…

Spring Picnic

The weather right now is perfect for a picnic. Not too hot but sunny and warm enough to be outside without a jacket. It has me daydreaming about going for a picnic.

Can we discuss how adorable that insulated lunch bag is with the woodland creatures on it?! And those glass containers need to be in my life.
I really need to plan a picnic soon! xo Jen

Warm Weather Treats

Let's be honest, there's never a time of year when I don't like baked goodies and creamy drinks. But as the weather gets warmer, I start craving iced coffees and milkshakes more. These are a few recipes that have caught my eye lately and I'd really like to make soon.
I've already been informed by Adam that those Key Lime cookies are being made very soon. I really shouldn't show him recipes I find online...

My Life In Photos

Life has been good lately. Spring has been showing itself and being outside and doing errands in the sunshine definitely boosts my mood.

Here are some snapshots of my life lately...

Nutella donut - thank you Tim Hortons!

The cats are obsessed with the open windows.

They're also finding all the sunny areas in the house to either sleep in our apparently fight in.

Animal Crossing New Leaf is still an obsession. Buying animal hats and adorable clothes has become my weakness.

A bunch of trades I picked up for super cheap!

We have a lot of fun plans coming up over the next couple of months. I'm excited for so many things right now!

What I'm Loving Now

It has been absolutely gorgeous out this past week. We've been going for a lot of walks - walking to the local ice cream shoppe, out for burgers, and to wander around garden centres. We also started cleaning up the yard this week and I'm feeling the pain from raking leaves and cleaning out garden beds.

Bunny Cactus

In my search for shrubs and vegetables to plant, I came across the 'Bunny Cactus'. I'm now obsessed and need to get my hands on one! I have plans to hit up garden nurseries in our area to look for one (and for other plants we want, of course).

Veronica Mars: Mr. Kiss and Tell
I finally got the audio book for the second Veronica Mars book, which I just finished this morning. It was so good! The story line was even better than the first book. However, Kristen Bell didn't narrate this book. Rebecca Lowman narrated this book and I'm OK with this. She narrated Rainbow Rowell's books (Fangirl, Eleanor & Park) and I'm a big fan of her vo…

Avengers Wish List

Yesterday we went to see Avengers: Age of Ultron and I really enjoyed it. I did like the first movie better but it was nice to see them focus some more attention on some of the other characters in Age of Ultron - like Black Widow, Hulk, and Hawkeye. I had mixed feelings going into this movie about the 'twins', Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. I know Quicksilver from the X-Men comics I've read. I know him as a mutant and Magneto's son. I didn't know how these characters were going to be portrayed in Age of Ultron since Marvel is not allowed to call them 'mutants'. But they were alright in the movie. I ended up growing to love Scarlet Witch. I'm excited to see her in future movies.
Just like in the other Marvel movies, I absolutely loved Black Widow. Natasha is so badass. So this wish list is a little heavy on Black Widow items.
I really need some Black Widow merchandise in my life. And how amazing is that Captain America sw…

Star Wars Day: Leia Buns

Happy Star Wars Day! To celebrate I decided to make cinnamon buns - aka Leia Buns! I've never made homemade cinnamon buns before so I was a little nervous but the recipe I followed turned out perfect!
Leia Buns
2 cups flour
2 tablespoons sugar
4 teaspoons baking powder
3 tablespoons butter
3/4 cup milk
4 tablespoons butter
1 cup brown sugar
3 teaspoons cinnamon

1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
2. Mix together flour, sugar, and baking powder in a large bowl. 3. Mix in softened butter and mix until well combined. Then stir in milk to form a soft dough. 4. Roll out dough on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick. 5. For the filling, combine softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon to form a crumbly mixture in a separate bowl.  6. Sprinkle 1/2 of the mixture over the bottom of a 9x9 pan. 7. Spread the remaining filling on the rolled out dough. 8. Roll up the rectangle of dough and with a sharp knife slice into 12 rolls. 9.
