Okashi Connection

Back in the Summer I heard about this amazing company, Okashi Connection. They are a subscription box company that sends out approximately 1 pound of candy and snacks from Japan to subscribers. I was thrilled to hear about this. So I started following them on all their social media and drooling over all the pictures they were posting. Long story short, they sent me a box to review which made me incredibly happy!

I'm a huge fan of Japanese candy and I buy it whenever I can, whether at Pacific Mall near Toronto or at Nations grocery store back in Hamilton. So I was thrilled to try some new things.

Contents of the box:

Koala's Chocolate Banana:
I've had Koala treats before but never this flavour. I was very excited for these. They had a strong artificial banana smell but I liked that. It reminded me of banana pudding or banana cream pie. The chocolate flavour wasn't very strong but the taste reminded me of a banana cream pie which I enjoyed. I would buy these again in a heartbeat.

Pai no Mi - Cotton Candy flavour:
These were intriguing since I'm a big fan of cotton candy. As soon as you opened the package, there was a strong cotton candy smell. The pastry itself was very soft and fresh which was surprising since it's a pre-packaged treat. They weren't overly sweet and the only cotton candy flavour was in the filling but they were still good.

Giant Caplico - Panda (Cookies and Cream):
This was no what I expected at all but I loved it! So it was basically a chocolate bar with an ice cream cone around it. The chocolate was incredibly similar to an Aero chocolate bar which is a good thing. The chocolate was soft and melted in your mouth and had bubbles in it just like Aero.

Country Ma'am - Strawberry and Vanilla (Hello Kitty 40th Anniversary):
These were probably my favourite item in the box and Adam loved them too. They were mini cookies and they were SO soft. We ate through the whole box in one sitting. I would stock up on these if given the chance!

Ototto Takoyaki Flavored Crackers:
I put these off for a while because I'm all about sweet treats. But once I tried a cracker, I was instantly surprised at how good they were! Two bags are inside the box so I left one for Adam, but I inhaled my bag of crackers. I can't even describe the flavour but they were excellent. And the cats apparently liked the smell because I had both of them trying to climb into my lap to stick their head in the bag. And look at the cute cracker shapes!

Baby Star Ramen Snack:
Like with the crackers, I put these off. But they were also delicious and perfect to bring to work! I would buy these little bags for my lunches. They reminded me of eating Mr. Noodles uncooked which I did a lot when I was younger. These ramen snacks were full of flavour.

I plan on signing up for a subscription box from Okashi Connection every once in a while. I think it'd make a great gift as well for the friend that likes trying new things. You get a ton of snacks to try and it's like a little adventure.

Definitely check out Okashi Connection and check out all their fun photos on their Instagram feed.

  1. what an awesome review opportunity- those snacks look so delicious and the packaging is adorable :) xxx

    1. The packaging is so cute and hooks me all the time with Japanese snacks.

  2. We almost needed another suitcase for all the treats we brought back from Japan last year, so this is a service I'd definitely like to check out.

    1. Oh! My husband is afraid of this happening when we visit Japan one day. I'm going to want to bring everything home with me!

  3. Oh my gosh most of these seem so off-putting but I am glad you liked them!

    1. I'm really happy I tried everything. I was surprised how good some of the snacks were.

  4. This sounded so amazing but most of these items I can get locally but this is perfect for those that can't! Now if they include flavored Kit Kats, I will be all over a sub!

    1. Apparently they do have flavoured Kit Kats sometimes. Each month is different treats. And the one month included green tea Kit Kats.

New Mom Must-Haves

It's been just over 9 months since Emma entered this world. It's been crazy. So many ups and downs. But I wouldn't trade this experience in for anything. She's amazing. It's definitely a learning experience and I wouldn't have gotten through the last 9 months without the support I've had. My family and friends have been welcome resources to help me in this new chapter of my life.

Emma has been a great baby - she sleeps well, she eats well, she's overall content and happy. We haven't experienced many problems. But that doesn't mean every day has been easy. Some days I don't get the chance to shower between Emma, chores, and just trying to eat; other days, naps are on schedule, feedings run smooth, and I have the opportunity to not only shower, but write up a blog post or bake cookies.

Since it's the time of year when people are out buying gifts, I thought I'd share the top must-haves I've needed over the last 9 months. They would …

My Favourite Baby Must-Haves

Having my first child has been eye-opening. I've learnt so much and made so many mistakes. It becomes a guessing game of what your child needs at times. You want to be 'perfect' but the reality is we're all just winging it and doing the best we can. Sometimes that means spending hours on Google, texting every 'mom' friend you have, or on hold with poison control because your baby licked eczema cream off your finger when you were putting it on her cheeks (or trying to).

With Christmas around the corner, I thought I'd share the top baby items that have saved us over and over again. They would be perfect gift ideas for new parents-to-be or stocking stuffers for infants.

1. Swaddle blankets - even if your child doesn't like to be swaddled these blankets are amazing. They're extra large and made from a breathable cotton. They were perfect for the spring and summer to bring with us on walks. If there was a cool breeze, too much sun, or Emma was upset, hav…

New Beginning

It's a new year which always feels like a new beginning to me; a fresh start. I've never been one to hold myself all that accountable for new year resolutions. I wrote down a few goals I'd like to work on this year, but honestly, the only things that matter to me this year are making memories and doing what makes me happy.

We have some fun plans this year, some set in stone and others that we need to finalize. Emma will be walking this year and she's already proved 2019 to be interesting since she's now crawling and trying to stand up. I can only imagine how many new adventures we'll encounter this year with her.

I've also found new inspiration in my creative life - artists, creators, crafts, fabric. So many things have sparked new motivation in me. I haven't felt that in a while to be honest. It's nice. It's nice to feel these things again which make me want to spend time in my craft room or sit at my laptop and write .

My first step in my newf…
