Easter

Happy Easter!

This year, Easter holds a slightly different meaning for me. But one of the things that has stayed constant throughout my life, is the amount of candy and chocolate I acquire during the holiday! I get a discount on Easter chocolate at my work. It's absolutely horrible for my sweet tooth... but they put all on the Easter chocolate on clearance yesturday so I of course had to buy some and at least I'll be sharing it with Adam. I didn't buy all the treats in the picture below. A few items (including the giant bag of Mini Eggs) were given to us from family. And there's some items pictured that I plan on putting with my packages that I'm mailing out soon.

We had our Easter dinners with both families already this weekend so I'm happy to have all day off to myself. I plan on snacking on some chocolate and watching Supernatural and Doctor Who.

If you celebrate Easter, I hope you have a wonderful day!

Confetti Cake Batter Cookies

This week is pretty busy for me... between work, Easter plans, and a One of a Kind show date, I don't have much free time. But I felt like I had to make some sort of Easter cookie for Adam. I remembered seeing a recipe on Pinterest for a cake batter cookie which is always a quick cookie to make.

I'm not new to cake batter cookies. There's one recipe I use over and over again and I love how they turn out. So for my Easter cookies, I choose a confetti cake mix and then added in sprinkles so the cookies are filled with colourful little bits.

I followed this recipe with a few exceptions.

1 box confetti cake mix
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 eggs
1/3 cup unsweetened applesauce
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup sprinkles

Heat oven to 350 degrees.

Mix cake mix and baking powder in a large bowl. In a smaller bowl, whisk together eggs, applesauce and vanilla. Add the egg mixture to the cake mixture and stir to form dough. Add sprinkles and mix. Sprinkles can dye the cookie dough so don'…

International Geek Girl Pen Pals Club

I cannot contain my excitement for this new club - International Geek Girl Pen Pals Club. Two amazing ladies (@darlingstewie and @frogmellaink) recently started up this awesome project where they will be matching up geek girls around the world to become pen pals.

Back in high school I was a pro letter writer... I spent many periods during the school day writing out notes and doodling on paper with my Hello Kitty pens and pencils to then slip into my best friend's locker. Once I hit college and started up my first blog (via livejournal), I started connecting with other crafty girls throughout the world and we created swap groups to send candy or craft supplies packages to each other.

It's been a few years since I've been involved in swap groups and this new pen pal group has me beyond excited! Especially since I'll be matched up with someone with similar geeky interests as myself! This project has me inspired to put together packages to send to other online friends I ha…

Current Obsessions

I started watching Doctor Who yesturday! I say that with an exclamation mark because even after a few episodes, I get the love for the show. I was loving the Doctor and Rose together by the second episode. Their relationship is adorable! I'm excited to continue on and see David Tennant as the Doctor after this season.

I also started Season 6 of Supernatural recently. As usual, the story arc for this season has grabbed my attention and I want to keep watching episode after episode once I start. So far my favourite episode this season is, 'You Can't Handle the Truth'. Dean and Bobby make me laugh and I loved their honest conversation in this episode.

Who's up to date with The Walking Dead?!?! I've been on the edge of my seat during every recent episode. I have no idea what's going to happen and what the season finale will bring but I'm so excited for the last 2 episodes! I'm also a…

Hello Spring!

Today is the first day of Spring... it's chilly and windy out but at least the sun is shining! I'm excited for the weather to warm up and to start enjoying activities outdoors.

I'm itching to pick up a few new Spring items for my wardrobe. I'm leaning towards a new Spring dress but I'm also in love with this light, fluttery shirt from Old Navy.

And of course I'm loving so many dresses on ModCloth...

And I don't need any shoes for the Spring and Summer... I recently bought a pair of wedges at a shoe charity event that will be my new shoes for this season. But I'm in love wi…

Style Inspiration

I've expressed my love for Mindy Kaling and The Mindy Project in a previous post. One of my favourite things about the character, Mindy Lahiri, is her fashion. Her character dresses in the most colourful, cute, and pretty outfits. Mindy wears a ton of skirts and cardigans which I adore and she wears a lot of fun patterns, from polka dots (lots of dots!), to stars, to hearts. And her colour choices are inspiring. I love a person who doesn't shy away from yellows, pinks and greens!

Mindy has a beautiful, womanly body shape as well which I find motivating personally. I love that she wears skirts that show her hips and she typically shows some leg. I find her wardrobe and confidence completely inspiring.

Look at all the colours and polka dots!

Sickness, Aliens and short hair?

This week has been pretty crappy here... I've developed a full blow cold since the con last weekend. I actually slept through the entire night last night which is the first time I have all week. I ended up napping with the kitties late morning today as well. I'm hoping a day of relaxing will get me feeling back to normal again.

Outside of work, I've been busy with other things this week. I'm officially confirmed for two more comic conventions this year:
* Art-O-Con - May 5
* ConBravo! - July 26-28

I've already started to feel a little overwhelmed by the amount of shows I'm doing this year so I need to get my butt in gear and start sewing!!

Me and Adam had a date night last night which was very needed. We went to the movies to use one of our movie coupons from Christmas. We saw Dark Skies. I didn't realize the movie was about sci-fi/alien stuff. The trailer freaked me out and I just assumed it was a horror movie bu…

ComicCon Outfits

The Internet has definitely made me feel more normal... what I mean is that twitter, facebook, and the blogs that I read have introduced me to a ton of geek girls who wear their geek clothes proudly and have a love of fashion. Personally, I don't have many people in my life who have the same geeky interests, but also a love of skirts, accessories and jewellery. Some of my favourite ladies online are all about geek fashion and inspire me constantly, like Darling Stewie and Super Space Chick!

I try to have an idea of what specific items I want to wear to the comic conventions I attend, especially if it's a new item or handmade. So these are my outfits that I wore for Toronto ComicCon.

Day 1 (photos were taken after each con day at home because the lighting is horrible inside the Toronto Convention Centre, and that is also why there's kitties at my feet)

Toronto ComicCon Recap

The signs of a good comic con for me? Tired, hoarse voice, sore body, headache, and money missing from my cash box (due to purchases). And I have all of those things! They may sound bad, but it's not because it's from the over stimulation. There's so much to look at and so many people to talk to!

This year Toronto ComicCon was much bigger than the previous year. It felt like a mini Fan Expo. Things seemed really organized and luckily I was also pretty organized (finally!) and my table set up was a breeze!

I had Jason (@The_Jedi_Ras) from An Elegant Weapon hanging out at the table with me over the weekend. It was fun and entertaining listening to him pod from the con.

There wasn't much cosplay this weekend but the cosplay that was there was really good! I posted more photos from the convention over at my facebook page. Go take a look if you want to see more of the cosplay!

Me and Mary

One of Mary's purchases... it's so adorable!
