Etsy Favourites

What to buy? I'm so excited to get my hands on some new fabrics. A new year is upon us and there's lots of craft shows and comic conventions coming up. I'm beyond excited to start sewing again for these shows! Though, there are a few other items that are tempting me...

A New Year

2012 is right around the corner. With Christmas over, my mind is becoming distracted by the events that will be taking place, or hopefully taking place, over the next year. Life is going to be exciting and scary this upcoming year... but I'm honestly looking forward to it. I have faith that this might be one of the best years yet.

My Life in Photos... Prepping for Christmas

What a crazy week! I cannot believe Christmas is this weekend! We have been squeezing in as much visiting and as many activities as we can while Adam is off school. We had our annual date at Swiss Chalet for the Festive Special and we finished our gingerbread house earlier this week. On the weekend we headed up to Belmont to visit family. We went into a town called Sparta... it was so cute! There's a bunch of vintage stores and small boutiques there where we did some shopping. We had lunch at an adorable tea house filled with tea pots.... like a gazillion tea pots lined the walls! Before heading back we stopped in at a farm called Winter Wheat. The entire building was filled with paintings... mainly of black and orange cats. It was too funny considering they all looked like Logan and Seymore. But the property was filled with art installations. I was told it was called 'agritainment'. It was so much fun! We even found a tiny building on the property where you could go insid…

Etsy Crush

I have had le petit elefant's etsy shop added to my favourites for sometime now. Her artwork is beautiful and has a vintage feel that I adore. But today I noticed some new items that were posted in her shop and I'm swooning. I need to spend some of my paypal earnings in her shop in the new year!

Go check out her shop and fall in love!

Just a quick post this evening since it's been a busy weekend and it won't be long before I jump into bed to read. We left yesturday early in the morning to go visit family and after arriving home not too long ago, we were greeted by hyper kitties. Normally Seymore cries at me and wants snuggles but so far they have been sprinting around the apartment and jumping inside a box full of records that I brought home with me... maybe tomorrow they'll want snuggles?

Oh, and one thing that was made more apparent this weekend was how much of a crazy cat lady I am. I stand out amongst a group of people when we start talking about animals and/or babies I instantly bring up the cats. Thank goodness I have Adam to control how many kitties I adopt... hehe!

If Seymore didn't have one of his eyes partially open this would be a really cute picture. But the eye? Instant creepiness.

Seymore is definitely the alpha male in our household so he typically takes advantage of Logan. This sl…

Christmas Baking

I've been baking like crazy over the last couple of weeks. I've made Belgium cookies, sugar cookies, shortbread, peppermint meringues, whipped shortbread, dream bars, and cranberry-almond biscotti! Luckily, we have some visiting to do over the next week so I can bring sweets along with me because there's no way we need to eat all of it!

The whipped shortbread recipe I made was spur of the moment but it turned out really well.

Whipped Shortbread
1 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup cornstarch
18 Maraschino cherries, halved and blotted dry

Heat oven to 375 degrees.

Beat butter and sugar in medium bowl for about 5 minutes until light and creamy. (I used my kitchenaid mixer)

Combine flour and cornstarch in small bowl. Add to butter mixture in 2 additions, beating well after each addition until no dry flour remains. Drop using 1 tbsp for each, about 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheet.

Put 1 cherry half in centre of each co…

Holiday Fun

It's countdown to Christmas now. My hubby finishes up his exams today which means I get 3 weeks of holiday fun with him while he's off school. We have a dinner date tonight and plans to make a gingerbread house tomorrow and then we start our family visiting this weekend. I still have a few things left to bake over the next week as well. It's going to be so much fun <3

Fabric Addiction

I started sewing about 6 years ago and since then I've had a crazy addiction to fabric and patterns. I could spend all my paypal earnings in etsy fabric sellers' shops and I pick up every sheet and fabric that looks like it's from the 60s or 70s that I find. A few years back my obsession with buying vintage, second-hand sheets hit me hard... sheets from my childhood, sheets my brothers had, sheets I wish I had. I currently have an overflowing, bursting at the seams book shelf full of fabrics. I can't pass anything up, especially the vintage, second-hand items, because you never know if you'll find it again.

I recently went across the border for shopping so I had to hit up Jo-anns for some character fabric. It's hard to find them in Canada.

Lately, I've been hitting the jackpot finding sheets as well!

Once Christmas is over I have to start sewing like crazy... I want to start building my inventory for the 2 large comic conventions I do in the Spring and Su…

Inspiring Music: Meaghan Smith

Do you have a singer and/or musician that just fills you with happiness and inspiration when you listen to them? I found this when I first listened to Meaghan Smith's album, The Cricket's Orchestra. I was lucky enough to see her play at a small club in Toronto over a year ago. It was so magical. There were no more than 30-40 people in the audience and since it's just her and her husband performing on stage, it was so intimate. Plus her voice is incredible live and I left that concert feeling so good about life.

The back in July, a few days prior to my birthday, I was able to see her play again in Hamilton. This time the crowd was a bit bigger but once again the show felt magical. Meaghan's stage presence, stories, and the way she performs are just adorable. I want to have her confidence and outlook on life. The best part, though, was I got to meet her afterwards. She autographed my cd and took a picture with me. She was a sweetheart but I'm so awkward meeting any …

Last Show of 2011

Last weekend was the Holiday Makers' Market in Hamilton. It was a great day and very successful for me. The church was pretty busy all day which was nice to see. It seemed like most vendors did well and all the visitors seemed quite talkative and in a positive mind set so that was motivating.
I apologize in advance for my photos. The church seemed bright enough to not use my flash on my camera, but photos still came out a bit blurry. And then when we did use the flash everything was washed out... I guess it's just this time of year when days can be very grey.

My table!

My table and purse rack. You can see my helper peeking through the shelving too!

Megan made me a sign for my pillowcases!

The church is beautiful inside!

It looks like my next show will be Wizard Comic Con in April which gives me a few months to restock. It'd be nice to do a smaller show before then because April seems so far away... either way I can concentrate on etsy and continue working o…

From her hair to her dress to her tights and shoes... I love this commercial! I just saw it tonight for the first time. It doesn't hurt that the singing is pretty and it's for a lovely smelling perfume too.

The girl in the commercial is the singer, Florrie, who I'm looking up now and listening to her other music. Check her out!

Hair Dreams

I'm working in a job where I need to keep my hair colour natural... but the urge to dye my hair pink again comes back every once in a while. I'm jealous of all the bloggers out there with their candy-coloured hair... Elycia, Kaylah, Kate... and every person who I find pictures of on Pinterest.

I still love red hair and I'm fond of calling myself a ginger. But one day I will have some candy-coloured hair again, even if it's just a few streaks...
