Waitress

Have you ever seen the movie Waitress? I've been itching to watch that movie again recently. I adore Keri Russell and Nathan Fillion is cute with her in this movie. Plus, there's lots of pie!

My friend sent me a link to a website with the different pie recipes from the movie. Check it out here.

I so badly want to try some of the recipes. Of course my number one pick would be the Marshmallow Mermaid Pie:
Marshmallow Mermaid Pie 9 graham crackers
1/2 C. sweetened, flaked coconut, toasted
5 Tbs. butter or margarine, melted
34 lg. marshmallows (8 oz.)
1/2 C. whole milk
1 1/2 C. heavy or whipping cream
1 oz. unsweetened chocolate, grated
1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Combine coconut and graham crackers in food processor until coarse crumbs form.
2. Combine crumbs and butter with fork. Press to bottom and side of 9-inch pie plate. Bake 10 minutes and cool on wire rack.
3. Heat marshmallows and milk in 3-qt. saucepan over low heat until s…

Life in Photos

So I have followed through with changing up my wardrobe... I've been pulling out all my tights and wearing dresses on my days off. It has felt so nice, except when I look down and realize I'm either covered in thread or cat hair. Oh well. I start the day off feeling cute.

I've been baking like crazy over this past week. Out of 3 cookie recipes I've tried, 2 have been soooo yummy! But I will share those recipes with you this week! While Christmas shopping, however, I bought a gingerbread cupcake or whoopie pie mix. I made the first batch into cupcakes. The cupcakes are so incredibly good and it made our apartment smell amazing but I was so disappointed with the frosting mix. I've made similar frosting mixes before in other whoopie pie mixes I've bought and the frosting always turns out fluffy. This time it was so watery. It tasted good with the cupcake but I like fluffy frosting!

We finally bought a new Christmas wreath, though, it's completely plain. I thou…

Brave... so excited!

I cannot wait until June 2012 to see this movie. I know the trailer has been all over the Internet lately but it looks so good. Pixar movies are amazing. And I love Merida's wild ginger hair <3

Anyone else excited for this movie?

SALE

It might not have been Thanksgiving here in Canada today, but I did spend my day in a festive mood. We went Christmas shopping to pick up some gifts and decorations for our apartment. Then I came home to bake, decorate the apartment, and sort out gifts. It's been a very good day.

To keep in the spirit of the American holiday today, I've also decided to do a Black Friday sale in my etsy shop. Use the coupon code 'BlackFriday' to get 15% off! My shop has a lot of great gifts for both male and female, young and old so check it out!

Happy Thanksgiving to all my American Friends! I'll definitely be checking out some sales this weekend. My Christmas shopping is still not finished.

Winter is here!

Winter is upon us! The last couple of days have been so cold and I don't know how much longer we can hold out on putting our heat on in our apartment. I can only steal so many of Adam's hoodies.

Unfortunately with work my wardrobe lately only consists of jeans, tshirts, and sweatshirts. One of the things I miss about working in an office is wearing dresses and tights everyday. No matter what, you could always feel cute. I really need to put in a bit more effort on my days off, though, those are the days I tend to craft and it's not fun getting my dresses covered in thread and fabric pieces.

I have an amazing pair of Blowfish booties that I need to start wearing more. Some of these outfits would be great to try!

I'm such a child...

It's been such a quick weekend! I just got home last night from a 48-hour shopping trip in the U.S. with some ladies from my family. It was a great time and we found some really good deals. And going through the Christmas section at Target and seeing the malls decorated for Christmas made me very excited! I bought some random pieces for Christmas gifts, stocked up on Christmas goodies we can't buy in Canada, and brought home, not only Pumpkin Pie Pop Tarts, but also Pumpkin Pie coffee creamer... yum!

I spent 9 hours today at work which was extremely tiring. I haven't had any time to rest and I feel like I've been on my feet forever. I had to stock today and I have to say I'm so tempted to buy toys for myself. It's horrible working with toys and being addicted to cute things. Before I started working there I had never heard of Lalaloopsy. I don't have an urge to buy their toys but I really love and appreciate the design of them. All the dolls and their pets …

Christmas Crafts

I've been finding so many Christmas DIY crafts online lately. I cannot wait to have a night free to sit and do some crafts while watching some Christmas movies.

I thought these would be cute attached to some gifts.

I have so many empty jars so I think I need to hit up Michael's for some craft supplies and try making a couple of these displays. With a lid on, at least the kitties won't be able to get at them!

Do you have any Christmas crafts you want to make this season?

My Weekend in Photos

I was lucky enough to have both Friday and Saturday off this weekend which was nice and very needed. I got a lot of crafting done and relaxed. Adam had placements all weekend so it was just me and the kitties hanging out most of the time... which is why there are so many pictures of them... I'm not a crazy cat lady, I swear...

They both spent a lot of time at the window with the leaves blowing around. Seymore kept jumping at the leaves when they blew against the building.

Seymore's my suck and he loves cuddling.

He also sits like a guy. See the scratches above his eye?? I don't know if he did it himself or if they're wounds from a fight with Logan.

Logan always look so harmless though.

I finally got around to making a felt leaf garland! It was fun and simple to make, except for having two kitties jumping at the embroidery thread the whole time.

We actually made it out of the apartment for a bit on Saturday for a walk. The sun was shining but it was oh so windy! I may h…

Christmas Favourites

Today flew by... probably because it was my first day off after working 10 days straight!! I was very productive though. I baked cookies, a pie, took pictures for etsy, made a leaf garland, and finally tried making bows! But since all of these things were done within the main room of my apartment, I also managed to watch 3 movies and a handful of Gilmore Girls episodes today too. I have to say I'm very thankful I have tomorrow off as well. I might actually venture out into the world to do some shopping and mail off an etsy order. For now I have a couple of treasuries I've made up for Christmas. The reality is, everything I put in a treasury I'd love to own, but my one treasury tonight is a legit wish list for this Christmas.... I will have to forward it to my hubby.
Well I should be off. Adam should be home soon from his hospital shift.

It's a little late...

I know, Halloween was over a week ago but I finally got around to uploading my pictures... I had the day off so I ended up baking Halloween sugar cookies and cupcakes. My dad actually bought me one of those Wilton cookie mold pans. I have never used one like that before and I was scared the cookies would stick but they popped out so easily! I also used the sugar cookie recipe they had printed on the packaging and they are definitely tasty!

I made the chocolate cupcakes from scratch and it was my first time using my Kitchenaid mixer for cake batter. It really made a difference - the cupcakes were definitely lighter and more airy than before. I find every time I make a cake or cupcakes from scratch they end up heavy but beating it longer seemed to help with that problem. I then whipped up some pumpkin cream cheese frosting for the top and had fun with some leftover candy and orange frosting I had.

The rest of the day was spent at my parents'. I helped hand out candy with my mom and…

Peanut Butter Chip Pineapple Drops

Good evening!

I made these cookies last week from a Cookies & Treats recipe book I have. I kept putting off baking these cookies because I never had canned pineapple. I'm very happy I eventually remembered to pick up a can because these cookies were really yummy! Substituting applesauce in the cookies made them extra fluffy and soft. You can't taste much of the pineapple but the peanut butter chips add a nice sweetness to the cookie.

Peanut Butter Chip Pineapple Drops
1/4 cup butter or margarine, softened (I used margarine)
1/4 cup shortening (I used unsweetened applesauce instead)
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt (I didn't add it)
1 can (8 ounces) crushed pineapple, drained
1 cup peanut butter chips
1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional, I didn't add any)
Red candied cherries, halved

Heat oven to 375 degrees.

Beat butter and shortening (applesauce) in large bowl…

Current Obsessions

What a week it has been! We're setting up the new store that I'll be managing starting Monday and I'm so tired... my body is aching and I come home dirty and dusty from boxes. At least come next week I'll be able to get back into a normal schedule and I can focus my attention on the Christmas season!

Has anyone else picked up She & Him's christmas cd? I've had it on repeat all week! By far 'Christmas Wish' is my favourite song on it.

Only 2 episodes have aired, but I'm thoroughly enjoying 'Grimm'. Have you watched it? I really like the story and the feel of the show. It has a 'Buffy' vibe to it which I really like it.

I was also just shown this trailer this week. The thought of seeing a Studio Ghibli movie in theatres makes me incredibly happy! Plus the movie looks adorable and sweet!

Well it's off to bed for me!

It's that time of the year...

Lately I've been craving a peppermint mocha. It's probably because I heard that Starbucks was coming out with their holiday cups and drinks this week. I might have to go on a little adventure this weekend to find a holiday-themed drink from a local coffee shop since we don't have a Starbucks here.

How cute would it be to have a hot chocolate set up like this at a winter get together? I love it and may have to steal this idea!

I hope everyone is having a good night. Work has been incredibly busy this week so my evenings have been spent sitting on my butt watching Gilmore Girls.

Night!

A New Month

Happy November 1st! Did you have a good Halloween? I spent the evening at my parents' house handing out candy with my Mom. There were so many cute costumes but by far my favourite costume was a young boy, maybe 4 years old, dressed as Mario. We asked him where Luigi was and he talked to us for a few minutes but we didn't understand a word he said. It was adorable.

The fact that it's November makes me so incredibly excited and happy though. I cannot wait to start getting ready for Christmas... shopping, wrapping gifts, baking treats, watching Christmas movies... I love it and it makes me feel so cozy and happy. We have a girls' weekend planned this month to go across the border to do some Christmas shopping and there's a couple of Holiday Craft Shows coming up that I'm looking forward to.

This month also marks the first time I have been a sponsor on another blog. This is both exciting and a little scary. But I'm very happy that I choose to do it on Elycia&…
